In order to make way for the new Transbay Transit Center at First and Mission streets in downtown San Francisco, the Transbay Joint Powers Authority (TJPA) demolished the former Transbay Terminal facility and bus ramp, and relocated utilities in the project area. Demolition and utility relocation activities are now complete, as is the Transit Center’s foundation and underground rail levels. Structural steel assembly began in Fall 2014 and was completed in January 2016. Placement of the exterior awning began in April 2016 and will be completed in early 2017. The bus ramp connecting the Transit Center to the Bay Bridge is currently under construction and will be completed by the end of 2016 in anticipation of the Transit Center’s opening in late 2017.
The Transbay Terminal closed on August 6, 2010. Bus operations have relocated to the Transbay Temporary Terminal.
