Project Schedule

The first phase of the Transbay Transit Center Project commenced in December 2008 with the groundbreaking of the Temporary Terminal. Construction of the new Transit Center is scheduled to begin in spring 2010 and be completed in 2015. The Caltrain Downtown Rail Extension is estimated to begin in 2012 and be completed in 2016.

Upcoming Timeline

Timeframe Activity
May–June 2009: Archaeological investigations to begin in the parking lot of 80 Natoma and Parcel E.
August–December 2009: Geotechnical prototype tests will begin in the parking lot at 80 Natoma and Parcel E (the U.S. Parking lot located in front of the Transbay Terminal.)
August 2010: AC Transit, Golden Gate Transit, Greyhound, Muni, SamTrans, and WestCAT Lynx begin operations at the Temporary Terminal.

Utility relocation begins around Transit Center site.

Geotechnical work begins in Minna and Natoma alley.

Demolition of Transbay Terminal begins.
Late Fall 2010: Demolition of East Loop (phase II of Temporary Terminal) begins.
Early 2011: West end and central sections of below grade shoring and foundation construction begin, including excavation of the Transit Center site.
